Jazz Works

A beginning "Jazz" piano method that "Works" for the classically trained pianist. "JazzWorks" is intended for use by teachers and students who play and read on at least the Intermediate Level but who have had little or no introduction to playing jazz. In each chapter, concepts and skills are presented through example and defined in the Glossary. Exercises to practice prepare the player to apply the new skills to the tunes included in the chapter.

The tunes are presented in lead sheet form: melody lines with alphabet chord symbols. Guidelines for forming the chords, adding bass lines, and improvising new melodies progress gradually from simple to more complex jazz styles. Accompaniment tracks for most exercises and all tunes are recorded and available in either General MIDI Disk or Compact Disc format. The CDs are packaged with the book and the MIDI Disks are available by order.

"Jazz Works" is published by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc. and available through your local music retailer.

Lead Lines & Chord Changes

"Lead Lines and Chord Changes" is a practical how-to approach for keyboardists to learn to create full-sounding arrangements of songs in fake books, sing-a-long books or any lead line/chord book by enhancing melody lines and improvising accompaniments from chord symbols. It introduces major and minor triads, major, dominant, minor and diminished seventh chords and the scales relating to each chord type to use in melodic improvisation.

SING AND PLAY Preschool Piano Series

The "Sing and Play" series is designed for the preschool piano student studying piano individually, in small groups, or in larger nursery school classes. Book 1 presents the keyboard in pre-reading form. Book 2 introduces reading; and Book 3 continues to prepare the child for late beginner level study in Middle-C, landmark-Interval, or Multi-Key methods.

"Write and Listen" workbooks accompany each level and are to be used as correlative in-class and at-home activities in writing and ear-training. The Teacher's Manual is an invaluable resource and guide. Flash Cards and three supplemental recital books complete the series.

These are truly an ideal group of books affording children the opportunity to acquire music skills through music learning activities that are age-aproprite for four, five, and six-year-olds.

The "Sing and Play" series books are available directly from the publisher: Stipes DPublishing, P.O. Box 526, Champaign, IL 61824-0526. Phone: 217-356-8391 or Email: stipes@soltec.net. Visit their website at www.stipes.com
